Case Study Debbie – Now In Employment

Debbie's Story

Before Yarlington tenant Debbie made contact with i2a, she was a lone parent, caring for a child with a disability, struggling with depression and feeling extremely isolated having lost her job and feeling that her life was very much ‘stuck in a rut’. I2a supported Debbie to identify her ambitions and the possibilities to achieve them. Working closely with her i2a Employment Coordinator (Chris), Debbie received bespoke advice on training, self-employment and how best to present her skills on a CV and application forms.

I2A Workshop“Chris helped me to find a course, to use my brain, utilise my time now my son was settled into school again, with a view to get back to work or to go self-employed. He sat with me going through options and when I had decided on Bookkeeping to use my flair for numbers and logical thought, he contacted SS&L on my behalf to discuss placements as I didn't have the confidence to make that initial contact and had become flustered to the point I could barely get a word out.” - Debbie

Working closely with partners and businesses that are part of Yarlington’s supply chain, Chris identified an opportunity with a local employer (Pro-fit Windows) who was keen to work with Yarlington and i2a in filling vacancies within their company. Chris forwarded Debbie’s CV to the employer and after supporting her with interview techniques and encouraging her to feel confident in her skills and abilities; Debbie was successful in gaining employment as a finance assistant.

“ I received a call, that, without exaggeration, I can say has changed my and my family’s life. I was offered the job. It’s part time initially and flexible to work around my son. I called Chris immediately to let him know, and he seemed genuinely proud of me. He talked through further support available and options that I had, reminded me of what departments and benefits etc. I needed to contact and reassured me that I’m still to stay in contact and they are there at the end of a phone or email for any further questions I have or any further support I need.” – Debbie

I2a continued to support Debbie to prepare for employment and the transition from benefits to paid work. Debbie is now established in her role, enjoying her experience and has become a valued member of the team at Pro-fit.

“I will forever be grateful to I2A and Chris for their support and encouragement, even when I was sat, almost in tears, saying how rubbish I was, in a pit of depression, Chris didn't give up, which, from personal experience isn't easy. The team are compassionate, empathetic and professional. Allow them to support you and you too will gain wings. Possibilities are endless with the right support!” - Debbie, Now in Employment
