Case Study Saengarun – Now In Employment

Saengarun's Story

Saengarun first heard about the employment support that Inspired to Achieve were offering Taunton Deane tenants when she received a leaflet through the post. Her last job had been working for a friend so she was finding the process of attending formal interviews and applying for employment a scary thought.

“The first time I met with Nicki I was really nervous and didn’t know what to expect, I met her at my local community centre and we talked about how to do a CV, she helped me to start looking at jobs on the internet”. Saengarun attended regular 1 2 1’s and also the local weekly drop in with i2a.

I2A Workshop helping people in training, education & employment.Saengarun says that “it felt really good to see my CV grow and to have someone to take the time to sit with me and help me understand how to apply for jobs”. During a weekly visit to the local drop in, Saengarun and Nicki found a vacancy with a local care company and they completed an application. From accessing Inspired to Achieve’s support Saengarun received coaching and support on completing job application forms successfully.

As a result of her application Saengarun was offered an interview with the care company, this was the first interview she would be going to in nearly 8 years “I was really nervous before the interview, I felt that my nervousness would get in the way but with Nicki’s help prior to the interview I was put at ease and she brought out my confidence a lot, I learnt about techniques I could use and how to sell myself”. Saengarun attended the interview and the company were so impressed with her that they offered her a higher position that was available. “When I phoned Nicki after the interview to tell her the news it felt amazing, I couldn’t believe it!”

Saengarun is now working as a Catering Assistant but has been offered the chance to train up to a Cook position which has always been her dream job.

I absolutely love this #seetheperson @radiangroup. It's about time the stigma was removed, we know what a difference we make day in and day out but the wider world needs educating on the difference that social housing makes to society and individuals. #ukhousing
